The 2010 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XXI Olympic Winter Games or the 21st Winter Olympics, will be held on February 12–28, 2010, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with some events held in the resort town of Whistler and in Richmond, a Vancouver suburb. Both the Olympic and Paralympic Games are being organized by the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC). The 2010 Winter Olympics will be the third Olympics hosted by Canada, and the first by the province of British Columbia.

Lack of Snow has Olympic Team Furiously Scrambling

Unseasonably warm, wet weather in the Vancouver area has been a worry for organizers in recent weeks. Crews are working around the clock using natural and man-made snow to ensure courses are ready, Tim Gayda, vice president of sport for the Winter Games, said Thursday.

ABC News - During the Olympics, The Feds Will Be monitoring the comments and posts on websites and social media

As the winter Olympics begin, the Department of Homeland Security has disclosed that it will be monitoring the comments and posts on websites and social media like Twitter for information on possible terror threats. Among the sites listed in a privacy impact statement filed Friday afternoon by DHS are the Drudge Report, the Huffington Post, Twitter, Google and this web site, the Blotter.

"Visitors in 2010 are being treated to a city with almost as many homeless people as athletes competing in the Games," said the Poverty Olympics Organizing Committee. "We hope that shining the international spotlight on the dark side of our prosperous city and province might finally convince our governments to take action."

Indian Olympic team get donated uniforms in Vancouver

Vancouver's Indo-Canadian community has rallied to provide funding and uniforms for India's three-man Winter Olympics team, local press reports say.

TJ Johal, the owner of Sports Unlimited in the Vancouver suburb of Surrey, told public broadcaster CBC that he was shocked to hear the team did not have proper uniforms for the opening ceremonies.
